  1. As a basketball player I remember going into the locker room before a big game against a rival who chose us to be the team they play against for homecoming. Generally, they pick the worst team because they want a definite victory and it is a slap in the face to a team who are chosen for this type of event. We were in the locker room and our coach told us that it was their homecoming. He gave a fairly short speech, telling us that they thought we were bad, we needed to upset them that night. I remember walking out of that locker room angry and ready to play the best game of my life. This is the type of motivational speech that a coach wants to give and it works! It tugged at my emotions in a way that put me in a mood to achieve what the motivational speaker wanted, in this case my coach. He wanted to prepare us to play a bloody and tough game of basketball that evening. We did win that evening, in case you are wondering.
